What are the types of health insurance coverage in America?
In the U.S., health insurance coverage comes in many forms. There's private insurance, often provided through employers, which includes Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and others. Then we have public insurance like Medicare for the elderly, and Medicaid for low-income individuals and families. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) covers kids in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid. Lastly, there's the insurance marketplace established by the Affordable Care Act, offering plans for those not covered by the aforementioned options.
